Description: Emphasis will be placed on the synthesis and properties of materials that are useful in the design of electrooptical devices, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs) and liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Topics to be discussed will include liquid crystals, conjugated polymers, and the assembly of thin film materials. A case study approach will be employed in order to provide an overview of these areas of research, with examples taken from the primary literature.
Prerequisites: CHEM 282.
