Description: This course will introduce the student to the various types of institutional health care settings, and the pharmacy practice settings that are utilized within each institution. The interrelationship of various health care professionals practicing within the institutions will be examined. Emphasis will be placed on examination of the laws and regulations and ethical standards that govern institutional operations. Students will develop knowledge and skills related to the role and scope of practice of the institutional pharmacy technician. Pharmacy operations and communication skills and strategies will be an integral component of this course. Small group work, case study discussions and video recorded simulation exercises will be emphasized.
