Welcome Back to School

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Hello September, and welcome back to classes!

Enjoy the orientation sessions, the many festivities, and the freebies handed out throughout your campus (in fact take an extra backpack to load up:).

And don’t forget to use your cute and helpless “I’m lost, help me find my class” look wisely: use it to make new friends, or who knows, your future girlfriend/boyfriend.

In honor of Week 1 of classes, and yes in response to your requests (and thank you for your feedback), we’ve updated our home page at last www.locazu.com. Let us know what you think.

Back to School Tips: Find Used University Textbooks for Cheap

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Back to school time: get your used textbooks before classes start. Don’t wait too long to organize your classes and find out which Canadian textbooks you need for class.

We at locazU consider ourselves pros at getting through the first week of school (among other school related wisdom categories).

Buy your textbooks used online, and pick up your bus pass or parking pass before september.

Find used textbooks online, and pick up your bus pass or parking pass before september.

That’s why we’ve started this online resource where university students can buy and sell used textbooks at a fraction of the bookstore price. We’ve even created a blog to offer advice about the important things in life: like how to stay awake in class and tips for avoiding food poisoning from the school cafeteria (no mystery meat, ever).

Your back to school to-do list

It’s because we like you so much that we’ve compiled this handy to-do list for your first week back at school:

  • -   Buy or activate your student transit card before classes start. You want to make it to your first day of class, right? Good. So go to campus a week ahead of time, get your photo taken for your student card, and activate it. Don’t blame the bus driver. If you need to buy the monthly bus pass (works out to be way cheaper than daily transfers), buy it before the start of the classes. September is a busy month, and vendors often run out. Keep your receipt for tax time; it’s tax deductable.
  • -   If you drive, buy your parking pass. There’s usually a limited supply of student parking passes. Get them before they’re gone. Or, to save on gas-money and reduce your carbon footprint, organize a carpool with other students.
  • -   Find your university textbook list online. Most profs will post early so students can come to class prepared. Shop around to find the best prices on textbooks (hint: find used textbooks on  locazU.com).
  • -   Look for online freebies and computer software to help you get organized.
  • -   Plot your classes on a university map. That way you won’t get lost on your first day.

Oh, and remember to have fun. The first week of classes means lots of parties, music, and food. Get in there and make friends. Score some freebies on campus from the big corporations who want your business. Every university student has a fine collection of aluminum water bottles and assorted key chains.

Before you forget, check out locazU.com online. Find the used books you need, or, create a wish list of the books you need, and trade textbooks with other university students. It’s one of those back-to-school resources that you don’t want to miss out on.

Buy used textbooks before classes start: Back to school tips from expert students

Buy your textbooks used online, bring an extra bag to collect first day back to school goodies.

Buy your textbooks used online, bring an extra bag to collect first day back to school goodies.

Plan ahead and buy used university textbooks before classes start. Don’t wait until your first day on campus to buy and sell used textbooks. Go online to locazU and start your wishlist. Find the most selection and trade textbooks with other students.

After all, the early bird gets the worm.

Your first day on campus as a new university or college student can be overwhelming. There’s so much to see and do. You’re anxious to meet new people and to get to know the campus. There’s music, student group and activity information, BBQ’s and more activities.

First things first. Slow down and make a list of what you need to get done on the first day. That way, you can get what you need to do out of the way first, and then spend the rest of the day enjoying the sights and sounds of your new home for the next four years.

Okay, here’s a list of back to school tips from the trusted professional students at locazU:

  • -   Sign up for a first year orientation tour
  • -   Find a map of campus and highlight where your classes are
  • -   Get your student cards before the first day to avoid line-ups
  • -   Save time and money, get your used textbooks online at locazU
  • -   Make sure to get or activate your student bus pass before classes start
  • -   If you are a returning student, make sure any library books you took out have been returned to avoid course registration problems and other penalties

Okay, here are a few tips about first day orientation tours. It’s not all together a bad idea. Volunteer students will take you around and orient you with all the key buildings on campus, like the student services center, the student union building, the gym (and pool?), and most important, the cafeteria.

But be warned: you will be asked to participate in team spirit exercises. Think human pyramid’s and you’re on the right track.

Take it from the professionals. Avoid purchasing new Canadian textbooks at your campus bookstore the first week of classes. The lines will be miles long. Go online and join locazU where you can find a huge selection of used university textbooks without spending hours at the UBC bookstore, York bookstore, or SFU bookstore

And now, the most important tip for your first day back on campus. Bring a backpack. All the freebies you collect from big corporations will be worth the extra baggage.
